The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Benue State, has called on politicians in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to desist from distracting Governor Hyacinth Alia and allow him to concentrate on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of the State.

Speaking during a solidarity rally in support of Governor Alia in Makurdi, the NUT state chairman, Comrade Levi Akuma, emphasised the governor’s exceptional efforts towards ensuring equitable development within the state.

The rally was aimed at underscoring the commitment of teachers and civil servants to the governor’s focused and visionary leadership aimed at the upliftment of the plight of the downtrodden people of Benue State.

Akuma stated that the anti-people politicians from the state were on the campaign to discredit the governor and cause undue conflict in the state for their personal aggrandizement.

Highlighting the governor’s excellent performance, the NUT chairman branded Alia as the “people’s governor” and a divine gift to Benue State.

He further called for a culture of sportsmanship among politicians, encouraging them to throw their weight behind the governor for a more rapid development of the State.

Akuma stressed the importance of unity and reminded the opposing politicians that there can only be one governor at a time and God and the citizens of Benue State had given their mandate to Governor Alia and nobody else.

The NUT chairman stressed that undue distractions should be set aside for the collective progress of the state, urging all dissenting voices to sheath their swords.

He particularly praised Governor Alia’s consistent commitment to paying teachers’ salaries in the state, stressing the importance of recognising and appreciating such efforts.

Akuma reiterated the NUT’s unwavering support for the governor-led administration, emphasising the need for politicians to prioritise service delivery over political maneuvering.

He stated: “From the chants of solidarity during the rally, it was clear that a significant portion of the state’s populace stands firmly behind the incumbent Governor Alia, and that if and another Gubernatorial elections were to be held now, that Governor Alia will have 99.9% of the electorates by his side.”
