Stakeholders have called for the restructuring of the nation as the only panacea to the myriad of challenges confronting it, particularly ethnic diversity.

The call was made during the book launch of Prof John Imonbhio Abhuere titled: “Restructuring Debate in Nigeria 2013 – 2022” in Abuja.

Speaking at the book launch, the patron of the day, Air Vice Marshall Saliu Atawodi (rtd) stressed the importance of the book amid ongoing discussion about restructuring across the country.

He said the country belongs to all citizens, irrespective of their ethnic and political affiliations.

He stated the need for urgency of action in nation-building, and called for a balance between dialogue and tangible efforts towards a better society.

Atawodi recognising Prof Abhuere’s relentless pursuit of enduring change stressed the collective duty to elevate the nation to greatness.

On his part, John Imonbhio Abhuere, a professor of management and development studies, said the book is a review of the debate on restructuring in Nigeria from 2013-2022.

He said it is concerned with national unity, development, progress, and the proper steering of the country for survival.

Abhuere said it provides historical, theoretical, conceptual, and empirical background of the debate, identifies real obstacles to nation-building in Nigeria, and cautions against mindless and fruitless restructuring.

He dismissed the call for a return to pre-1967 regional structures as regressive, advocating instead for a paradigm shift.

He stressed the need to embrace tools of leadership, good governance, moral probity, and citizen participation for societal development.

Expressing concern over the absence of trust-building measures in the nation, he underscored the importance of nurturing unity and fostering growth.
