As the world gets ready to observe this year’s International Migrants Day, the International Association Of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) has commended the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for improving in its services especially under its present leadership.
While congratulating the Comptroller General of the NIS, Mrs Wura-Ola Adepoju, IAWPA, in a statement signed by its International Spokesman, Amb Emmanuel Nkweke, said this year’s observation of the International Migrants Day, which the association will be holding as a side event at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, on Thursday, December 14, will be used to educate the society on the importance of migrants in any society and how it is important to create an atmosphere that will enable them thrive within the rules that govern wherever they find themselves.
The statement also said that migrants and displaced people represent some of the most vulnerable and marginalised groups in society. It said migrants have proven to be a source of prosperity, innovation, and sustainable development to countries of origin, transit, and host countries.
IAWPA is a globally recognised peace advocacy group with members drawn from various countries and walks of life. The association also has a Special Consultative Status under the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations since 2019.
