Plans are underway by the Cross River State Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to surpass the N35 billion revenue target for it in 2024.

The revenue agency’s acting chairman, Prince Edwin Okon, stated this yesterday in Calabar, the state capital during an interactive session with stakeholders at a training on best practices for tax consultants in the state. The event was organised by the Cross River IRS and facilitated by Lani Consulting.

The trainers advised the residents of the state to be consistent in tax payments to enable the government to deliver its programmes and campaign Promises made.

In his address titled: “Synopsis of CRIRS 2023 Strategy and Achievements,” Okon urged participants in the event to come up with practical solutions to the problems of multiple taxation to enable the IRS to block loopholes in revenue generation.

The IRS chair said, “In 2024 and beyond, the projection is to reduce the number of taxes to single digit. We can do much more if we can work together and block loopholes. We hope to move the revenue far beyond the N35 billion target and this requires the support of all stakeholders,” he said.
