In a bid to provide affordable healthcare services to residents of Jahi community in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Rotary Club of Wuse Central has renovated the community Primary Healthcare Centre.
The district governor of Rotary International, Sagab Ahmed, during the commissioning of the facility, urged the residents of Jahi community to take ownership of the Primary Health Centre built for them for adequate use, as he promised to engage private corps to protect the facility.
Ahmed said the Primary Health Centre was established to address the health challenges in the community, saying that Rotary came into existence to provide assistance for the poor and to consider health care as an important area to meet the needs of the poor.
He reminded that Rotary International had at a point played a major role in rolling polio out of Nigeria until the country was certified by WHO as a polio free country, adding that to establish a primary health centre such as this, was just one of many services Rotary provides for humanity.
The district governor noted that as part of the maintenance of the facility, Rotary would engage community corps to provide security and to periodically report back to the Rotary Club for further help where necessary.
The president of Wuse Central Rotary Club, Mr Albert Alkali, said he feels fulfilled that the Primary Health Centre is finally inaugurated for use.
He said before his tenure ends next year, more of such projects would be executed, ranging from potable water to road walk to encourage physical fitness for members.
The director of Primary Health Care AMAC, Dr Modipe Adeyinka who was represented at the occasion by Mr Abdulkarim Mustapha said the council would support Rotary International, through the deployment of health workers to the primary health centre to ensure that quality health care is given to the people of the community.
The Jahi Primary Health Centre, according to the district governor, has many units, including antenatal for pregnant women.
