Leading opposition party in Imo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a swipe on Governor Hope Uzodimma and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the just concluded Southeast meeting of APC and for partying despite the massacre in Otulu Ubawaha in the Oru East local government area of the state.
The party’s publicity secretary, Mazi Emenike Nmeregini said Imo people are eagerly awaiting the ouster of Governor Hope Uzodimma. The Southeast chapter of APC had emptied into Owerri on Saturday during which they announced support for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s presidential quest.
Nmeregini in a statement issued yesterday said it was provocative to see Uzodimma and few APC members partying with exotic wines and champagne while the state mourned the death of 20 people. According to him, Uzodimma ignored the entreaties made to him to postpone the event in respect to the mood of Imo people, saying there were reports that critical stakeholders in the state, including the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ohaneze Youths, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) amongst others, reached out but he refused.
The PDP said, “The I-don’t-care, nothing-de-happen attitude of the Governor since the widely condemned, gruesome murder of over 20 innocent youths – his own kinsmen by his Ebubeagu militia has become more glaring that he cares less if 10, 000 innocent lives are lost, under his watch, since he broke into the Government House in January, 2020.
Governor Uzodinma’s reaction to the alarming insecurity in the state, especially the recent Otulu massacre, confirms his tacit complicity to the reign of terror and bloodletting in Imo State”.
The party maintained that “It is incontrovertible that this governor has serially refused to welcome and implement wise counsels, strategies and solutions, proffered by the PDP in Imo State and that of other patriotic stakeholders towards addressing the nagging insecurity and collapse of government in Imo State. While the governor has not only shown deliberate lack of empathy to families of the victims of the massacre, he has deliberately refused to extend solidarity to their families on behalf of the government and people of Imo State.”
