Oganenigu Unity Cup Enters Semifinals Stage

The stage is set for semifinal matches of the ongoing Oganenigu Unity Cup in Oganenigu, Dekina local government area of Kogi State.

In the semifinal pairings released by the organisers, Awujeje will take on Ogane-Uge at the Odolu-Efu Football Pitch on Friday for a spot in the final while hard fighting Agbada FC will lock horns with their neighbours Ojuwo FC in Ugbabo Primary School’s football pitch. 

To reach the last four, surprise semifinalist Awujeje dumped out pre-tournament favourite Aloko in their quarterfinal match, while Ogane-Uge stunned football giant Ugbabo with four unreplied goals at Awujeje Football Field.

Agbada FC on their part thrashed Ebeje 3-0 in third quarterfinal match to book their place in the last four, while Ojuwo edged out Odolu-Efu 1-0 at the Ugbabo Primary School’s football pitch. 

The community-based unity football tournament which kicked off December 2, 2023, will climax on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the Oganenigu Ward headquarter, Aloko with high and mighty sons and daughters of the community, including top politicians and business moguls from across Nigeria and beyond expected to grace the final.

According to the chairman of the local organizing committee, Comrade Abel Baba, the tournament which was designed to promote peaceful coexistence, unity and patriotism among people of the community is also aimed at creating job opportunities for the teeming youth and eliminating youth restrictiveness using the instrumentality of football.
