The police in Kano State havearrested a 24-year-old woman, Hafsat Surajo, who stabbed to death a domestic aide, Nafi’u Hafiz Gorondo, for allegedly preventing her from committing suicide.
The commissioner of police, Muhammad Usain Gumel, said she confessed to the crime.
Gorondo was said to be living in the same compound as her matrimonial home and was assisting her husband in some of his activities.
She confessed that the man was sleeping when she stabbed him in different parts of his body which led to his death.
The police arrested her husband and the house guard for concealing the crime and attempting to cover up.
“On 21st December, 2023 at about 0700hrs, report was received from one Hafizu Salisu of Bauchi LGA, Bauchi State that he received a phone call from one Dayyabu Abdullahi of Unguwa Uku Quarters Kano that his brother, one Nafi’u Hafiz aged 38 years, was dead and that they should come and convey the corpse to Bauchi State for burial.
“When they arrived the residence at Unguwa Uku Quarters Kano, they discovered several injuries on different parts of his body suspected to be knife stabs.
“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, directed the Divisional Police Officer, Zaria Road Division, SP Abubakar Chika Zaki, to lead a team of detectives to the scene.
“The body was removed from the scene and rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where a medical doctor certified him dead.
“Investigations led to the arrest of one Husfat Surajo, 24 years, a house wife in the residence where the deceased lived. Following further investigation conducted at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Hafsat confessed to have singlehandedly committed the act by stabbing the deceased on several parts of his body with a knife while asleep.
“Her husband, one Dayyabu Abdullahi, aged 38 years, of the same address and their gateman, Mallam Adam, aged 65 years, were arrested for aiding, packaging and concealing the dead body to give cover up.
“Discreet investigation also led to the recovery of the knife used in committing the crime. Suspects will be charged to court after completion of the investigation,” police said.
