A group, the Niger Delta Peoples’ Congress in the United States of America (NDPC-USA), has called on all parties involved in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, to sheathe their swords and embrace peace.
It warned that if allowed to continue, the crisis would promote insurgency, crime and breakdown of law and order in the state.
NDPC-USA, in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt yesterday, further warned that the crisis will impact negatively on the development of the state and therefore, should be vehemently discouraged as well as avoided completely.
The statement, which was signed by the group’s president, Bishop Samson Amajene, called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as elders and elites of the state, to prevail on the political actors involved in the recent crisis to sheathe their swords.
The group reiterated the importance of politicians not allowing their personal interest to override the general interest and prosperity of the people of the state, the region and the nation.
Recounting the experiences and negative impacts of political crises that had rocked the state in the past, the NDPC said the implication of another political crisis will be too grievous for the state to bear.
