The Air Component of Operation Delta Safe, on Saturday, December 23, 2023, destroyed six illegal oil refining sites in Opu Arugbana, Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information, in a statement confirming the operation, said that the illegal sites, clustered within a radius of 80 meters about 6 nautical miles south of Opu Arugbana, were “identified as active, and authorization was obtained to destroy them, thus discouraging the criminal activities.”

The statement said that despite the festive season, air operations against criminal activities in the Niger Delta and other regions remain ongoing.

Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff, who spent Christmas Day with troops in the North East and is currently in Katsina State to celebrate with Operation Hadarin Daji personnel, commended the efforts of Air Component Commanders in all theatres of operation.

He urged them to “continue their relentless pursuit of reducing criminal activities to the barest minimum.”
