Red Cross Donates N39m To Niger Flood Victims

Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross (lFRC) has donated N39 million cash to victims of flood disaster in Niger State.

The head of the cash distribution programme in Niger State and an ICT officer from the National Society Headquarters in Abuja, Sakariyau Ahmed Balaji, disclosed that 1, 250 victims of the flood disaster benefitted from the cash donation.

The head of distribution for Niger State who spoke during the cash distribution held in Lavun, Wushishi and Shiroro local government areas of the state over the weekend said the beneficiaries were drawn from the local government areas where the flood disaster was most recorded.

He said the breakdown showed that 1,000 beneficiaries were from Lavun and Wushishi local government areas with 500 from each while the remaining 250 beneficiaries were drawn from Shiroro local government area.
Ahmed Balaji said the Red Cross movement in Nigeria deemed it fit to support victims of natural disasters in Niger State in the movement’s humanitarian gesture to victims of disaster as a way to cushion the hardships faced as a result of the disaster.

He said the distribution has been conducted peacefully devoid of any fracas across the three local government areas that were worse affected by the flood according to their records and reports.
Ahmed Balaji stated that each of the beneficiaries collected the cash directly and physically.

Niger State were appreciative of the gesture of Red Cross movements in Nigeria for what they have been doing for the people of the state.

The state branch secretary said the Red Cross has been supporting and assisting the people of the state for so many years in every aspect of humanitarian assistance and hoped that it would be sustained.
Responding, Fatima Yahaya Sharif, Abdullahi Mohammed and Habiba Mohammed, who were beneficiaries appreciated and acknowledged the tremendous financial support and assistance they have received from the Red Cross movement.
