Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has said that the suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s oath of office.

Speaking to State House correspondents after a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Uzodinma noted the consistency of the suspension with the law and the president’s commitment to his oath.

He urged the media to let the matter rest, saying, “Let’s allow the sleeping dog to lie.”

He said, “We have only one president whose wisdom we cannot question. And what is more, if there are allegations and the President said I want to look into it, I think it’s consistent with the law and the oath of office he swore to. So, I don’t think it’s something that will begin to create a menu now for the media. So, I think let’s allow the sleeping dog to lie.”

Uzodinma also stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors fully support President Tinubu’s policy agenda outlined in the latest budget.

He stressed the transformative potential of the capital projects and reforms prioritised by the president. He added that initial public concerns about new policies, like fuel subsidy removal, will diminish as their benefits become evident.

He added, “The Progressive Governors Forum, the APC governors, members of APC as a party, the federal government, the government that belongs to APC as a party, we are on the same page. So what we expect is very simple and has been clearly defined in the last Appropriation Act signed by the President.”

He continued, “So, by this January this year, we are already to 31st December, which is the lifespan of that Act. I’m sure the initial fears, occasioned by some of these reform policies, like the subsidy remover on petroleum products, the exchange rate escalation, will be cured.”

The governor reported that Imo State experienced its most peaceful Christmas in 2023, crediting his administration’s effective management of recent security issues.

Regarding the release of separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu, Uzodinma reiterated that southeast governors are continuing their efforts on the matter but did not provide specific updates.
