Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a serious warning to principals and school administrators, holding them accountable for any low student turnout in public schools.

The secretary of the FCTA Education Secretariat Dr. Danlami Hayyo,  gave the warning during the 2024 second term resumption visitation and inspection to select schools in the Territory.

Hayyo, who expressed satisfaction with the turnout observed during the visit, cautioned that any school recording low student attendance would face consequences, deeming it a failure on the part of the school authorities.

“When we discover a school whereby teachers are ready but students are not present or the turnout of the students is low, definitely we are going to change the administration of the school. We are going to bring someone capable hands that can lead,” he said.

The secretary, who highlighted the priority placed on education by the current administration, reiterated the commitment to safeguarding the sanctity of the sector.

“One of the priorities of the minister is education.

We can not wait until the minister sees something bad before we take action; definitely, we are going to curb the problem,” he said.

During the visit to various schools, including Government Science and Technical College, GSTC, Area 3, Government Secondary School, Tundun-Wada, Junior Secondary School Wuse Zone 6, and Glisten Group of Schools, Jahi, the Secretary and his team expressed satisfaction with the overall turnout of students and teachers on the first day of the second term for the 2023/2024 academic session.

He outlined the ongoing efforts to address challenges in the education sector, citing the allocation of N13.1 billion in the 2023 budget for renovations, construction, and provision of furniture in FCT schools.
