Governor Alia Warns Benue Council Chairmen Against Truancy

Benue State government has warned council chairmen against leaving their duty post without approval from his special adviser on Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The governor who spoke through the chief press secretary, Tersoo Kula, said it has come to the notice of the government that most chairmen leave their duty post without permission and this has also caused truancy among the local government staff who are only seen when salaries are paid.

He disclosed that plans for the provision of conducive accommodation for the chairmen is underway to enable them stay at their duty post so as to liaise with the grassroots people alongside the traditional rulers to nib insecurity in the bud.

The governor also disclosed that the state government is to establish Benue Public Service Institute, (BPSI) to train civil servants and noted that for over 30 years Benue civil servants have not stepped out of Benue for a course or attended any training programme or promotional examination.

“The civil service remains the engine room of every government, hence the need to train and retrain them for efficiency,” he said.
