A youth pastor, Joseph Fekala, has allegedly killed a 25-year-old girl, Katrine Oguoh, at Okaka community in Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa State and buried her in a room.
According to the police, the killer is not a Yahoo boy as earlier suspected. He is one of the youth pastors in charge of Sunday school section of the church.
Leadership gathered that the deceased who sold clothes, had left home on Tuesday after a minor family misunderstanding and went to her friend’s house in Okaka before she went missing.
Some of her close friends said neighbours overheard her demanding an undisclosed amount in debt owed by her killer.
The deceased popularly referred to as Kate, an indigene of Sagbama and a graduate of Novena University in Delta State, was later discovered to be killed and buried by the suspect in his house.
Some residents of the Okaka community expressed concern over the alleged discovery of another skeleton in the room but such claim was dismissed by the police.
The father of the deceased, Sir Dick Oguoh who spoke to journalists at the Bayelsa State Police Command in Yenagoa, said the daughter had a misunderstanding and left the house to visit her girlfriend who happened to be a younger sister to the suspect residing at Okaka.
He said they became uncomfortable when they tried reaching her through her mobile phone but she was not reachable.
He said when they visited the house at Okaka, the suspect initially denied seeing her, so they became suspicious and decided to report her disappearance to the police.
He noted that it was in the process of laying a formal complaint to the police when he received a call that the suspect killed his daughter, dug a shallow grave and buried her.
Leadership observed that her already decomposing body was wrapped in a black polytene bag with deep cut on her head.
The Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command, CP Ben Okolo, who confirmed the development, described it as sad. He said the Homicide Department of the command had been sent to exhume the body in line with police procedure to immediately commence investigation and prosecute the suspect.
CP Okolo further advised residents to be security conscious and avoid bad companies. He also advised parents to always monitor and guard their children and wards to avoid sad incidents.
