Nations Cup: Onuachu To Join Super Eagles Camp Monday

Paul Onuachu is expected to arrive the Super Eagles camp on Monday after earning a late invitation to be part of the Super Eagles squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Trabzonspor of Turkey star was announced as replacement for the injured Umar Sadiq on Thursday night.

Onuachu will feature for Trabzonspor in a league game against Antalyaspor on Saturday night.

The 29-year-old will depart Turkey that same night and arrive Abidjan Monday morning.

The lanky hitman is expected to be in contention for Nigeria’s second Group A game against hosts Cote d’Ivoire.

Onuachu, who is on loan at Trabzonspor from Sky Bet Championship club, Southampton, has scored nine goals and registered three assists in 15 games for the Turkish side.

LEADERSHIP reports that the 34th Nations Cup tournament kicks off this Saturday with Nigeria facing Equatorial Guinea for her first game in Group A on Sunday afternoon. The Super Eagles will tackle hosts Ivory Coast on January 18, and play their last group match with Guinea-Bissau on January 22, 2024.
