SEMA, NEMA Support 12, 124 Yobe Households With Agricultural, Other Livelihood Items

The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency has through the federal government’s Special National Livelihood Emergency Intervention (SNELEI) supported a total of 12, 124 households with agricultural among other livelihoods inputs in the state.

The federal government special Project SNELEI, is being Implemented by National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) across Yobe in partnership with SEMA targeting 24, 263 households with livelihood and agricultural packages.

Flagging off the distribution, the Special Adviser to the governor on Youths, Hon Hashimu Nuhu Hashimu described the project as significant in the post insurgency initiative of governor Mai Mala Buni.

Hashimu said the present administration in the state placed premium in empowering people hence the presentation of the livelihood support to the selected victims by the NEMA is key in quest to make people self-reliant.

“May I use this opportunity to call on NEMA to bring more of this and  other livelihood support as it will go a long way in making them independent and empowered.

“Similarly, let’s call on the beneficiaries to make good use of the items for the purpose intended as selling it will only aggravate your sufferings than solutions.”

“I am happy that this phase of intervention which started in August 2023 has so far reached 12,124 Households which is 50% of the total Approved Households,” he said.

The representative of the director general NEMA Hajiya Binta has while speaking commended the Yobe State Government for providing the necessary support towards the successful distribution of the implements.

She expressed happiness with the orderliness and the distribution processes of the intervention to the identified beneficiaries.

The rice seedling basket beneficiaries went home with Rice Seeds, Herbicides, pesticides, Growth Enhancers, Fertilizer and Water Pump while sorghum seedling basket received Sorghum Seeds, Herbicides, Pesticides, Growth Enhancers, Fertilizer and16 Liter Knapsack Sprayers.

Similarly, cowpea seedling basket benefitted with Cowpea Seeds, Herbicides, Pesticides, Growth Enhancers and 16 Liter Knapsack Sprayer. A farmer and MD of YMFB enumerated the importance as well as the value chain of the support describing the gesture by NEMA as a wise decision.

“The economic importance of this support is beyond what you think because it will not only provide food on the table of the beneficiaries by reducing the rate of unemployment in the society.”
