The archbishop, metropolitan and primate of All Nigeria, Anglican Communion, most reverend Henry Ndukuba, has warned INEC to resist any temptation to rig the 2023 presidential election.
Ndukuba reasoned that any attempt to rig the election will spell doom for the socio-economic and political existence of Nigeria.
“The time of impunity is over and we are hoping that INEC will do their judicious functions and there will be fairness in the way we do or carry out the political process.
“If there be any rigging, if there be any manipulation of the system, or there be any way the citizens are shortchanged, them, let us be ready for a bloody revolution.
“I think they (INEC) should nottake the citizens of this nation for granted,” Ndukuba warned.
Most importantly, the head of Anglican Communion in Nigeria, opposed the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressives Congress, ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
“We say no to Muslim-Muslim ticket, we stand against any move to mortgage the future of our children and this nation by any means.
“Time has come for the citizens of this country to take over the role they must play in the choice of our leadership.
“This country can never be bought with money or be led by money bags. Apart from this, we are asking our people to be on prayer and watchful,” the cleric stated.
Ndukuba spoke at the 2nd session of the 5th Synod, Diocese of Kubwa, which was held from 29th to Sunday 31st July, at St Peter’s Church, Karu, Abuja.
The primate stated that though the country is faced with a myriad of challenges and problems, “Nigeria will survive, Nigeria will overcome”.
“For those who are hell-bent on destroying Nigeria, they will not succeed.
“Politically, we have gone through many things, and for anybody at this moment in time and in this generation, with all the polarization and all the challenges that are facing us to think that he can hand over leadership of this nation to just one religion, or one ethnic group, you will be making a mistake.
“In fact, it is the high point of insensitivity and negligence of reality or living in denial of the realities of our time.
“Therefore, we are the citizens of this country and we want to encourage everybody to rise and do the needful.
“Let us do our constitutional, legal responsibility as citizens to vote and be voted for, to stand for our right and look for leaders that will be able to give us what we are asking for,” Ndukuba said.
Also, the most reverend Nicholas Okoh, former archbishop of Abuja Province and Primate of the Church of Nigeria in the Anglican Communion, said, “The situation in Nigeria is very unfortunate. We never thought that a group of people somewhere will just gather and commandeer everything, without consideration for other people.
“It is not helpful at all that the whole Christian population in Nigeria is marginalised to the extent that the Muslim should take, first, second third, all the positions and they said everything is okay.
“Does it mean you can’t find any Christian who is capable? It is inconsiderate.
“The prayer for Nigeria is that the Lord should guide us in tight decisions”.
