His suspension was contained in a letter written to the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, by chief press secretary to the governor, Onogwu Mohammed and made available to journalists in Lokoja.

The governor also directed that the chairman of Ajaokuta local government area, Hon. Mustapha Aka’aba, be queried over the breach and should reply within 24 hours.
Governor Bello’s action was prompted by the recent security breach in the area which led to the death of some security personnel while maintaining law and order.
Bello warned other traditional rulers across the length and breadth of the state who may have connection in whatever ways with criminal elements in their domains to desist forthwith in their own interest, noting that his administration will deal ruthlessly with anybody who romances with criminal elements no matter how highly placed.
In the same vein, Governor Bello directed that all unofficial movements of the local government council chairmen out of their territory and other journeys without due process are hereby restricted forth with.
He warned that no amount of connivance with criminals would deter him from his responsibility of protecting life and property of the people of the state.
