Many Feared Killed As Soldiers, Gunmen Clash In Plateau

Unconfirmed reports said that there was a clash between soldiers and gunmen in two villages of Mangu local government area of Plateau State early yesterday.

A source in the area who did want his name in print said many people were killed in the encounter.

Our correspondent gathered that the clash occurred after Governor Caleb Mutfwang relaxed the 24-hour curfew imposed on the area from 8 am to 4 pm on Friday night.

It was further learnt that about 30 gunmen were  killed while some soldiers sustained injuries during the clash at Satguru and Tyop villages all in Mangu LGA of the state.

A security operative who did mentioned his name said; “The incident occurred between 7 and 7:30 am when the gunmen came in their numbers and started attacking some communities along Gindri road. Immediately the soldiers were alerted they responded.

“About 30 of the gunmen were killed while more than 50 of them were arrested with guns and ammunition. Four soldiers were equally injured.”

Another source in the area who also pleaded for anonymity confirmed the incident to LEADERSHIP, adding that people were living in fear.

Media officer of Operation Save Haven (OPSH) in charge of security in Plateau, Bauchi and Southern Kaduna State, Captain Oya  James, did not pick calls when our correspondent called him for reaction on the incident  at the time of filling this report.
