Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru, has promised to restore public power supply in Afikpo and environs before the end of March this year, after nine years the second largest city in the state was without light.

Governor Nwifuru made the promise when he received members of Ekpukessa Traditional Council of Elders at the Presidential Lodge, Government House, Abakalilki.

He expressed displeasure over the delay in the completion of the project despite his intervention.

“I have spoken to Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN, and cleared all the backlog of challenges they have. I had expected that by now, they are supposed to have mobillized back to site but it didn’t happen.

“However. I will not leave it for the Commissioner for Power alone, I will get more people involved to ensure the job is completed before close of work on 30th March, 2024”.

The governor also assured that work will soon commence on Ndibe Beach Bridge as a way of bringing development closer to the people.

“I had made this promise during my campaign visit to Afikpo but the minister of works has told me the project had been captured in the federal budget.

“He also assured that enough money was earmarked and  a competent contractor will be selected to handle the job. I believed him because he is a man of his words.  I will also monitor the project to ensure that it happens.”

The governor commended Afikpo people for their partnership even before the creation of the state and urged them to always form political alliance with other parts of the state.

The leader of the delegation, Chief Christopher Abagha Egwu, said they were in Government House to Identify with the governor and appreciate him for his laudable policies and programmes.

“We wish to place it on record that Ehugbo Traditional Council of Elders have keenly and clearly watched your governance style since you assumed office. Your people-oriented policies have given a human face to governance as attested to by civil servants and the general public,” he said.
