Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) Barr Julius Abure said he is not participating in the party’s primaries for the governorship election in Edo State.

Abure also dispelled rumours of alleged forgery in the party, stating that he took time to react to the alleged forgery because some people may think it was true.

Speaking during a press conference at the party secretariat, Abure said LP is now strong and can run its affairs without using its members as place holders, which he acknowledged is alien to the electoral act.

Abure who hails from the state said, “I am not running for the Governorship primary in Edo. I will get people to conduct free, fair and credible primaries.”

On the issue of threat to his life, Abure said he has made a formal complaint to authorities.

“We have made several reports on it. I won’t dwell much on that,” Abure said while assuring the members of his party of a level playing grown for all.

“I am assuring members of the party that we are committed to the ideals of the party members.

“On the issue of placeholder, today, with the membership strength of the party, the issue of placeholder is now a thing of the past,” Abure said of the issues raising concern about forgery in the party.

“We now have qualified people competing for elections. We won’t use placeholders again. We just conducted elections in Kogi Bayelsa and Imo. Those candidates emerged and formed part of the election. So, the issue of placeholder is now a thing of the past,” Abure said while dispelling allegations about forgery levelled against him.
