Decomposing Bodies: Police Raid Imo Forest, Arrest 5 Suspects

Following a viral video of decomposing corpses discovered in forest at Avu in Imo State, the police has arrested five suspects in connection with the crime.

In the video, the state hunters’ association had discovered decomposing corpses and alleged some Fulani people were responsible for the incident.

The Imo State police command spokesperson, Henry Okoye, in a statement he issued yesterday, said the tactical team of the command led by the commissioner of police, Aboki Dajuma, in synergy with some local hunters on Monday, stormed the hideout of the hoodlums in a forest in Avu community and arrested the suspects.

The suspects who were five men included Muazu Awuta aged 30 years, Abdullahi Abubakar, 32 years, Ozeru Sabo, 25, Saddam Suleiman, 27 and Bashir Yahaya, 28.

According to him, all the suspects hail from Jau local government area of Jigawa State and have provided useful information to the police on other gang members now on the run.

Among the items discovered in the forest were “two decomposing unidentified corpses suspected to be kidnapped victims, telephones, wristwatches, shoes, slippers, five operational motorcycles of the abductors were also recovered.”

The police added that “the command intends to carry out further DNA confirmatory test to ascertain the identities of the deceased.

“Intense operation is still ongoing in the forest and other identified black spots with the aim of stamping out all forms of crime and criminality in the state.”

Meanwhile, other communities in Ndegwu, Orogwe and Irete in Owerri West local government area have raised the alarm over alleged recurring abduction in the areas.

Meanwhile, the Imo police boss said the command has launched a manhunt for the POS robbery attacks and killers of the police officer at Ohii junction on Monday even as he maintained that only one police officer and two residents of the area were killed in the incident and not two as earlier reported.
