Shuaibu made the promise yesterday after taking over command from the outgone theatre commander, Maj- Gen Gold Chibuisi, at the Command and Control Centre of the theatre in Maimalari Cantonment, in Maiduguri.

Shuaibu, who noted that his coming to the theatre is an opportunity to serve, said his role is to galvanise officers and men to ensure that the mandate of “Operation Hadin Kai ” is achieved.

He said, “We must go ahead with the mandate of the ongoing operations and ensure that we enhance it, as well as ensure that the officers and men are doing what they are supposed to do.

“The latest tactics of the terrorists which is resorting to planting of IEDs on soft targets is part of the issues we will be working on and very soon, we are going to address it.”

Addressing troops shortly before handing over command to the new theatre commander,  the outgoing theater commander,  Maj. Gen Gold Chibuisi told the troops that he considered the opportunity to serve in the past six months an honour and a rare privilege.

He used the opportunity to thank the Chief of Defence Staff ( CDS  ) Gen Christopher Musa, and the service chiefs for finding him worthy to serve, and expressed gratitude to the troops for the support they gave him in the fight against the Boko Haram/ ISWAP terrorists , and urged  them to extend the same to the new theatre commander.

He thanked the state governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, and the governors of Yobe and Adamawa states for their support to the theatre during his stewardship.

He equally commended the media and members of the humanitarian community for their support in the non-kinetic approach to the fight against insurgency.
