Jigawa To Cultivate 150,000 Hectares Of Wheat

Jigawa State governor, Umar Namadi, has announced plans to cultivate 150,000 hectares of wheat in the next farming season.

This was revealed in a statement by the senior special assistant (SSA) on media to the governor, Hajiya Zainab Rabo Ringim and made available to newsmen in Kano, yesterday.

She said the measure was to improve food security in the state and the country in general.

The SSA said Governor Umar Namadi also disclosed plans to expand the programme to other crops for the betterment of citizens in 2025.

Jigawa was allocated 40,000 hectares of land for wheat farming under the initiative to enhance food security in Nigeria where over 10,000 farmers are supported with agricultural inputs for effective farming.

Ringim in the statement said, “Governor Namadi further stated that the only way to move people out of poverty is through the development of agriculture.”

The statement said the Jigawa State governor thanked President Bola Tinubu for initiating various agricultural intervention programmes since the inception of his administration.
