The governor who was on visit to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Abuja, said that his administration has been offering support to the farmers and will double it under the current administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The visit was part of the ongoing collaborative efforts between the federal and the state governments for smooth implementation of the forthcoming 2023-2024 dry and wet-season farming across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to the governor, the state will distribute more fertiliser and other inputs to the farmers in order to boost the production of various crops to fight food inflation.

He also said that the state has competitive edge for agricultural development and would invest more in mechanisation for better agricultural outputs.

Earlier, the minister of agriculture and food security, highlighted Nasarawa State as a state with promising potential for participation in dry season farming.

The minister expressed optimism that the state, renowned for its cultivation of grains, legumes and root crops, is well-positioned to meet the readiness criteria for the initiative.

Kyari called for increased support to farmers in the state while he emphasised on mechanisation as a proactive approach towards maximising agricultural productivity and sustainability.

Drawing from past experiences, the minister referenced instances where farmers, particularly those in economically disadvantaged circumstances, struggled to access necessary agricultural inputs due to financial constraints.

To address this issue, he said various states should implement measures such as additional subsidies, land clearing assistance and investment in mechanisation.
