We’re Committed to Strengthening Nigeria’s Constitution – Governors

A joint team of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Abia State command and the state Homeland Security has arrested a lawyer and four others over suspected illicit drugs weighing about 1.2 kg and seized N.5million.

The operation was executed before midnight on Wednesday, February 14 at the legal practitioner’s family residence at No 23 Arochukwu Street by Calabar Road, Umuahia, the state capital.
The team said the drugs are suspected to be cocaine, cannabis, and metamephetamin which is generally referred to among Igbos as “mkpurumiri”.

Addressing the press on the operation, yesterday, the deputy governor, Ikechukwu Emetu lauded the team for the operation, saying the present administration had made the state an unsafe haven for criminals.

“To drug kingpins, the administration’s directive is very clear. Stay away from the state. We don’t need you. You are not part of the development agenda of the state. Drugs can’t develop the state,” he added.

Earlier in his remarks, the senior special assistant to the governor on homeland security, Chukwunenye Alajemba, said the suspect is a daughter of a late notorious drug dealer in the capital.
