The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has affirmed that the Caretaker Committee (CTC) set-up to harmonise and spearhead conduct of election for the substantive leadership of Rivers State chapter is still actively in place.

In a statement, the President of SWAN, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, through the Association’s Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, categorically stated that the purported election in the chapter was merely a shallow claim by few disgruntled elements who are bent on entrenching distractions.
While recalling what led to the emergence of the caretaker committee, President Benjamin said the terms of reference given to the three-man committee led by Mr. Cyril White, with Mr. Austin Isaac and Francis Edookor as Secretary and Member respectively, are firmly in line with Article 15 of SWAN Statute.

“Please disregard claims by certain individual imposters that the SWAN Rivers State chapter held elective Congress. Relevant security agencies have been properly briefed and are taking necessary actions.
“The CTC is still very much in place and the process for an Elective Congress is on.

“Already, membership annual registration/renewal is currently ongoing nationwide, and Sports Writers in Rivers State are doing the same. Good enough, the CTC has been up and doing well.

“Initially, the CTC encountered challenges which they are presently facing. In a few days, the CTC will roll out both the electoral committee and processes that will ensure their job is done conclusively,” the SWAN President clarified.
