A member of the House of Representative for Lapai/Agaie federal constituency in Niger State, Hon Abdullahi Mahmoud, has urged the state government to include Lapai, Gulu and Muye roads in the road contracts it recently awarded.
He made the call when he spoke with journalists at Muye in Lapai local government area during an inspection tour of a collapsed wall along River Gurara.
The member decried the deplorable state of the roads over the years without recourse to the plight of the motorists plying the road.
Abdullahi Mahmoud emphasised the need to take into cognisance the suffering of the citizens of these communities noting that the route is also a short cut to neighbouring Kogi State.
He added that with the reconstruction of the road it would ease transportation and improve economic activities of the area.
It could be recalled that governor Mohammed Umar Bago last week signed 556-kilometre roads contracts with no fewer than 37 contractors for the construction of 257 roads in the 25 local government areas of Niger State.
He said it was a deliberate policy by his administration to open up rural communities.
