Eight months into his tenure, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has undertaken significant initiatives to address the country’s housing challenges, despite facing obstacles like rising building material costs.
According to a report by the Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN), the minister has matched his initial pledges with concrete actions.

Key among his achievements is the launch of the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for Housing and Urban Development.
The programme kicked off with the ground-breaking of a 3,112 housing unit Renewed Hope City in Abuja.
In a report by the executive director of HDAN, Festus Adebayo, the Minister also signed an MOU with private developers to deliver 100,000 affordable units across Nigeria and performed the ground-breaking for a 480-unit project in Abuja.

He said “additional milestones include announcing plans to transform slum communities across Nigeria and construct housing estates in every state, as well as launching a mortgage scheme for Nigerians abroad.
“On the legislative front, Dangiwa intends to reform outdated laws governing housing and land access.
“He has also taken steps to enhance the performance of agencies like the Federal Mortgage Bank and Federal Housing Authority.”

“Stakeholders commend the minister’s collaborative approach seen through his engagement with professionals and the private sector.
However, they emphasise the need to prioritise revitalising abandoned housing projects to cut costs amidst rising building material prices.
