The Yobe State government has agreed to expend the sum of N4.1 billion as palliatives to the state workers and pensioners.

This was made known in a statement by Alhassan Sule Mamudo, the chief information officer, Office of the Acting Head of Service, Hamidu Alhaji.
The statement said in response to the current economic hardship arising from the fuel subsidy removal, the Yobe State governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni recently approved the payment of N699,450,000 as palliatives for both civil servants and pensioners on the payroll of the state and local government on monthly basis.

According to the statement, the approval includes N10,000 for civil servants and N5,000 for pensioners for a period of six months, which commenced last month (February) and the cumulative total shall be the sum of N4.1 billion.
He said that the monthly standing payment for gratuity was recently reviewed from N100 million to N200 million.

Similarly, the sum of N708 million was recently released for the payment of gratuities for local government retirees.
He maintained that the administration of Mai Mala Buni places a high premium on the welfare of its civil servants, which calls for support and cooperation to the Buni administration to enhance effective service delivery to improve the lives of the people of Yobe State.
