Fidelis Onyekanna, a native of Ake-Igbanke, Orhionmwon in Edo State, who used to reside in Lagos, has cried out for help over an attempt to arrest him for involvement in homosexuality and alleged cult activities.

Onyekanna who narrated the incident leading to his travails, said it happened on October 12, 2023, when he lost his job after retrenchment from the company he worked for in Lagos. He said after the layoff from work, he was paid some money as a severance package, after which he used to invest in a relaxation center called ‘Jolly Joint.’

According to him, the business started growing through patronage from friends, who converted the place into a rallying point for homosexual activities. He said as the relaxation center became known to be frequented by same-sex patrons, police authorities raided the spot and fortunately for him, he was not found as he went to purchase some items for the business. He said on hearing of the raid by law enforcement agents, he went into hiding to evade arrest.

“I went into hiding for some time. Friends have been telling me that my secret dealings and homosexual activities have been exposed to the police and that my event center had become a place for cult activities.” He however agreed to being gay but denied being a cultist, even though there is a law against homosexuality in Nigeria.

He narrated further that he received a message from his aged mother, who had been suffering from high blood pressure, which sadly led to her demise. “Even on the day of her burial, I was not present due to fear of being arrested by the police,” he revealed.

He said he was informed that police officers always patrolled his house in search of him and that his associates and family members advised him not to return home to avoid arrest.

As the situation unfolds, Onyekanna said out of fear he decided to relocate from Lagos State. He also said after the death of his mother, the family house was deserted. “I instructed one of my closest friends to help me sell some of my belongings to enable me to raise money.
