Abia Dep. Speaker Raises Alarm Over Erosion Challenge

Deputy speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu, has raised the alarm over the erosion challenge in some communities in Ohafia local government area of the state.

The member representing Ohafia South state constituency in the House stated this during plenary, calling for an urgent need for government intervention against the devastating environmental challenge.

He prayed the House to mandate the Nigeria Erosion Watershed Management Project to visit the erosion sites for an on the spot assessment of the extent the devastation.

The lawmaker, who appealed to the project to include the challenge among its priorities, lamented the magnitude of the devastation on the third urban area of the state after the capital, Umuahia and Aba.

Furthermore, the House, presided over by the speaker, Engr Chinedum Orji, has passed for first reading HAB 59, a bill for a law to establish the College of Nursing Sciences and for other matters connected therewith.
