Bauchi State government has confirmed the outbreak of Lassa fever in seven local government areas of the state.

The affected councils are Bauchi, Toro, Kirfi, Tafawa Balewa, Dass, Ganjuwa and Alkaleri.

Although there are no official statistics on the extent of the outbreak from Bauchi health authorities, in 2023, a report from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) indicates that Bauchi, Ondo and Edo account for about 75 percent of all confirmed Lass Fever cases reported in the country.

A team of personnel from the state ministries of Health, Housing and Environment and Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) led by Mahmud Mohammed said it has embarked on vector control in communities across the affected areas.

He called on the general public to always adhere to proactive measures, cooperate with the sensitization team and comply with their preventive advice.
