Also at the event, the executive secretary of Women in Energy Network (WIEN), Asanimo Omezi, called on individuals to advocate for inclusive practices and spearhead initiatives to break down barriers.

Omezi stressed the importance of recognising diverse life stages in promoting inclusivity and emphasised the need for equal opportunities, fair representation, and environments that embrace diversity.

She also underscored the critical role of organisations like WIEN in fostering collaboration and empowerment through initiatives such as knowledge-sharing platforms, coaching, and scholarship programmes.

“Creating and sustaining suitable environments for women is necessary. It allows for their engagement and access to knowledge, finance and resources, and also provides them with role models, mentors and flexible working arrangements for increased impact.

“Evidence abounds on the benefits of integrating gender considerations into the energy sector. When the barriers that prevent women from having equal access to energy and economic opportunities are removed, significant productivity gains are unlocked, strengthening development and economic outcomes,” Omezi said.
