In compliance with Presidential directive, the Sokoto/Zamfara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has released fifteen seized trucks of grain under its custody to their owners.
The Comptroller, Kamal Mohammed, while handing over the trucks of grain at the Command headquarters in Sokoto, charged the traders to reciprocate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s magnanimity by ensuring that the grains are sold only in Nigerian markets.
According to him, the Command in collaboration with Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) and the Joint Border Patrol Team (JBPT) will monitor the sales of the grains in Nigeria markets and ensure they are not smuggled out of the country.
He further enlightened traders and the general public that grains and its derivatives are under the extant Export Prohibition list.
The Comptroller warned smugglers to desist from their dastardly act as the management of the Nigeria Customs Service under the leadership of Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, in their resolve to fight smuggling in all ramification has added to the patrol fleet of the Command.
This he said, will go a long way in making the border unsafe heaven for unpatriotic smugglers with penchant to make money at the detriment of the country.
The Secretary of Sokoto Grain Sellers Association, Alhaji Dahiru Ladan on behalf of the union, thanked President Tinubu for tempering justice with mercy.
He assured that the union will ensure the grains are sold in Nigerian markets.
