The National Association of University Students (NAUS) has condemned the indefinite shift in the takeoff date of the Students Loans Scheme announced by the Federal Government.

National President of the association, Comrade Obaji Marshall described the development as unacceptable and an extension of the sufferings of Nigerian students.

Marshall who disclosed that the postponement of the takeoff of the loan scheme was badly received by NAUS, said the association had no choice, but to fault the government for the decision.

He noted that although the Federal Government scored a first for introducing the idea, but NAUS is unhappy with the absence of student representation in the special committee which could be partly responsible for the delayed takeoff.

The NAUS president also called on the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso and the NELFUND Executive Secretary, Mr. Akintude Sawyer, to work overtime towards delivering on the novel idea, and relieve the expectations of anxious students.
