Recall that the National Industrial Court (NIC) sitting in Abuja, had settled the NURTW leadership, affirming Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as the validly elected President of the Union for a second term in office.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, NURTW Lawyer, Barr. Tolu Babaleye, reiterated the constitutional process that led to Baruwa’s election during the Cordelia Delegate Conference in Nasarawa State on August 23, 2023

Babaleye said Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa was consequently and duly sworn in as the President of NURTW.

He noted that the victory of Baruwa in the elections, held at the Zonal Delegates Conference across the six zonal councils of the Union held on May 24, 2023, where Baruwa emerged as President for a second term in office, was valid.

He noted that tensions escalated when former President of NURTW, Alhaji Najim Yasin, contested Baruwa’s legitimacy, leading to a legal tussle and attendant political and external interferences.

Babaleye also called on the Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to prioritise the matter and uphold the rule of law.

He highlighted the urgency of resolving the leadership dispute within NURTW, stressing the need for peace and harmony within the labour organisation.

He noted that as the legal brickbats unfold, all eyes remained on the concerned authorities to uphold fairness and justice in the complex matter.
