The general overseer of the Glory House City Church, Atlanta Georgia, United States of America (USA), Pastor Chuzzy Udenwa, has said the student loan scheme by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot solve the difficulties being faced by students in Nigerian universities.

The cleric who gifted 30,000 students, scholarships aimed at assisting undergraduates financially said the loan scheme by the government was not sustainable.

The cleric spoke at the weekend in Minna, Niger State while ministering to the students drawn from all tertiary institutions in state. He posited that most Nigerian students are finding it difficult to cope with the increasing cost of education in the country but noted that the students loan scheme  is not the solution to the problem.

“It will fail woefully because students will not be able to pay back, who will pay the loan back, is it the students or parents who in the first instance are too poor to afford the fund, most of whom are even struggling to feed?” he asked rhetorically.

Udenwa however suggested that private organisations and individuals must intervene to rescue education as obtainable in other organised societies.

He said, “We cannot leave education for the government alone, individuals and organisations should donate generously to funding tertiary institutions.”

Udenwa lamented the rot in the education sector, especially at the university level, saying that his ministry is dedicated to touch the lives of students mostly affected by the exorbitant cost of education in the country.

He said to assist the students, “we give small scholarships of N50,000 to each student in four categories at our campus crusades, most of our students are getting frustrated because of the hardship. So, we got a population of students and trained them to get out of frustration “.

The cleric admonished the students from the states benefitting from his ministry’s outreach to shun unwholesome activities on campus.
