Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has appealed to the Federal Government to intervene in resolving the longstanding electricity crisis affecting eight local government areas in the state.
The governor made this plea during a meeting with the Minister of Power, Adelabu Adebayo, at the Sokoto State Government House on Thursday.
Expressing deep concern over the prolonged lack of electricity in these areas, Governor Aliyu emphasized the dire need for support from the Federal Government to reconnect these communities to the national grid.
He highlighted the adverse effects of lacking electricity on the daily lives and economic activities of the affected residents, stressing the urgency of addressing this critical issue.
“We need your support in reconnecting eight local government areas that have been without light for years as well as the general improvement of electricity supply in the state,” Governor Aliyu stated.
In addition to seeking assistance for the immediate reconnection of these areas, Governor Aliyu urged the Federal Government to reconsider utilizing the potential of the Goronyo Dam for electricity generation.
He emphasized that leveraging the dam’s capacity could significantly contribute to addressing Nigeria’s energy needs, thereby alleviating the widespread power shortages experienced across the country.
