Ahead of the September 21 Edo State governorship election, indication has emerged that some members of the Labour Party (LP) under the aegis of Edo Obi-dient Movement have perfected plans to throw their weight behind the the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket of Senator Monday Okpebholo and his running mate, Hon. Dennis Idahosa.

A dependable source in the group, who did not want to be mentioned confided in LEADERSHIP that the group was excited with the pair of Okpebholo and Idahosa, noting that Edo State was set for the take by the APC.

“In the next few weeks, we shall come out in our numbers to publicly declare our support for the APC candidate and his running mate. All we are interested in is an Edo State where the citizens will be proud to call their own,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Obi-dients Movement at an enlarged press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in Benin City, Edo State capital, has passed a vote of no confidence on the leadership of the State chapter of the Labour Party on the way and manner it conducted the governorship primary election, alleging that the process was compromised in favour of the highest bidder.

In a statement signed on behalf of leaders of the Edo Obi-dient Movement by Comrade Felix Ikhuenbor, they said the Movement is not a member of any political party but a group that is at liberty to see to the enthronement of a better society and Nigeria.

“LP which is supposed to provide alternative platform, has become the worst and conducted the worst primary election in Edo State. It must be clear that this unholy action is anti-Obi-dient Movement and against what H.E. Peter Obi is known and stand for, therefore must be rejected.

“We cannot fold our hands and allow our dear state to be further mortgaged to evil elements. Those who sell party ticket, should have examined the buyer to know that they do not have footprints in Edo State before coming into the party and no support from them during the presidential election when the party was without structure knowing fully well that the candidacy of Mr Peter Obi was for the masses and national rescue.

“While assuring H.E. Mr Peter of our continuous support for him, we advise that he provides leadership in Labour Party and do a thorough review of the party leadership and purge them of all contaminating symptoms ahead of 2027.

“Now that Labour Party has woefully failed, in a couple of weeks, we shall be deciding which candidate from other parties that befits the desire of our people (Edolites) to align our movement.”
