The Chairman, Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Arase has condemned in strong terms the new wave of killing of police officers on official duties.

Arase emphasized that police officers are also Nigerians who deserve the support, encouragement and protection of the citizens.

The retired Inspector-General of Police noted that killings of police officers in some states have become worrisome, and called on the Inspector-General to take another look on the capacity of state Commands nationwide.

Spokesperson of the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, quoted Arase to have asserted that there must be consequences for the avoidable incident.

He added that any state Commissioner of Police found to be incompetent, derelict, operationally or tactically porous should be eased out, to avoid huge police casualties.

“We have had more than a fair share of these ugly developments in recent time and this called for an integrated intelligence policing,” Arase said.

The PSC Chairman condoled the families of the slain officers, saying the time has come for commissioners of police in states to rise up to the occasion.

He also condoled with IGP Olukayode Egbetokun on the unfortunate developments, especially at a time when all hands are supposed to be on deck to rid the nation of militancy and banditry.

The PSC Chairman further enjoined the serving officers not to be demotivated by these ugly developments, but instead re-enact their indomitable fighting spirit that the Force is known for to ward off the new wave of assaults.
