A group, Christian Solidarity Worldwide Nigeria (CSWN) has welcomed the release of the Kuriga school children and appealed to the federal government to extend the same treatment to other captives.

In a press release signed by its research and press officer, Mr Reuben Buhari, the group commended the governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, for his prompt intervention; the service chiefs who synergized to ensure the freedom for these children and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his deliberate determination and assurance that ensured the children regained their freedom.

It also commended other Nigerians who played a role in securing the children’s release.

CSWN said the freedom of the children had given hope that other captives in the clutches of bandits in Borno, Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina, and other states could get attention from the government that would transform into their release.

“More significantly, we still have the 61 people kidnapped in Buda on 12th March, 2014 and the 87 taken from Kajuru station –  both in Kajuru LGA. Others include the 17 kidnapped from Goningora on 28 February 2024.

“The freedom for the 137 School children further highlights the fact that with determination and sincerity the Nigerian government can not only ensure the freedom of others being held against their will but also secure Nigeria for its citizens”.

Recall that on the morning of March 7, 2024, schoolchildren of LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School, Kuriga, Chikun local government area of Kaduna State, were abducted by terrorists who herded them into the forest until their release in Zamfara 18 days after.

The statement added that the CEO of CSWN, Reverend Dr. Yunusa Nmadu, further called on the government at all levels to become more proactive in preventing these types of mass school abductions before they happen.

“It is possible to prevent these types of abduction and save our people from such avoidable experiences. We encourage the government to also work toward securing freedom for those still in captivity, ” he said.
