The state commissioner for environment and sanitation, Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin who disclosed this at a media chat in Osogbo yesterday appealed to residents of the state to refrain from dumping refuse indiscriminately.

He described the attitude of some residents to waste disposal as disgusting adding that residents should be ready to take responsibility for their actions.

Adejoorin who described environmental sanitation as a business for all considering the consequences inherent in its handling with levity enjoined the people of the state to abide by the rules or be ready to face the consequences of their actions.

The commissioner disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the last Saturday of the month as environmental sanitation day adding that it would afford residents the opportunity to clean and beautify their environment.

He insisted that it is better to make sacrifices to ensure a healthy environment as according to him, health is wealth adding that prevention is better and less expensive to cure.

The commissioner who lamented the level of deforestation within the state appealed to residents to plant more trees not only to replace those brought down but add to the existing ones because of the numerous benefits inherent in it.
