National Library Expands Partnership With Bulgaria, Commissions A Bulgarian Corner

The National Library of Nigeria (NLN), has commissioned the Bulgarian Corner at the library’s branch in Garki, Area 2.
The corner, holding physical and digitized books is a furtherance on the partnership formed between the apex library and Bulgaria a year ago.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Bulgarian Corner, The CEO and National Librarian, Prof Chinwe Anunobi said she and her Bulgarian counterpart signed an Memorandum of Understanding for the digitization, preservation of the apex library’s repository and manuscripts, in addition to the ensuring the exchange of information, human and material resources between both countries.

“This corner will serve as a hub of that relationship. It is open to all Nigerians, and non-Nigerians who seek information from and about Bulgaria. As time progresses, we may create a virtual Bulgarian Corner on our website for those who cannot visit the physical corner.”

Anunobi also noted that Bulgaria has opened up educational opportunity for Nigerians in the library and information study track to study at its University of Library and Information Technology.
In his address, Bulgarian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Yanko Yordanov commended ‘the people of Nigeria, and Bulgaria, who he described as the wealth of both nations.

Pleased that the Corner’s commissioning coincides with the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Nigeria, Ambassador Yordanov said both countries are establishing the foundation of another sixty years of successful partnership between both nations.
