Nollywood actress Eniola Ajao’s debut cinema production, “Ajakaju – Beasts of Two Worlds,” has stormed the Nigerian box office, breaking multiple records and setting a new benchmark for indigenous films.

Released nationwide on Friday, March 29th, 2024, “Ajakaju” made headlines once again after its premiere, where controversy erupted over the Best Dressed Female award given to a cross dresser, Bobrisky.

Despite the social media buzz surrounding the event, fans eagerly anticipated the film’s release.

An official announcement made by FilmOne Entertainment via its verified Instagram page on Monday April 1st, 2024, stated that “Ajakaju” raked in an impressive ₦63.2 million in its opening weekend, solidifying its place as a groundbreaking cinematic achievement.

The film’s astounding success has propelled it to the forefront of Nigerian cinema history, smashing several records in the process.

FilmOne revealed that “Ajakaju” now holds the title for the biggest opening for an indigenous film of all time, marking a significant milestone for Ajao’s inaugural venture into cinema production.

Additionally, it claimed the record for the strongest Easter opening film, further cementing its cultural impact and widespread appeal.

Notably, “Ajakaju” also secured the position of the third-highest opening for a Nollywood film of all time, indicating its immense popularity and widespread acclaim among audiences.

Moreover, it shattered expectations by achieving the biggest opening record for a first-time producer in cinema, showcasing Ajao’s remarkable talent and entrepreneurial spirit.

The film’s success was further bolstered by the unwavering support of Ajao’s colleagues in the industry, including renowned actor Odunlade Adekola, who actively promoted the movie through a series of meet-and-greet events.

Despite initial controversies, such as the debate surrounding Bobrisky’s award at the premiere, fans continued to show their enthusiasm for “Ajakaju,” flocking to cinemas for a chance to experience the groundbreaking film firsthand. This was evident during a meet and greet event with Bobrisky at Ikeja City Mall on April 1st, where fans gathered to watch the movie and celebrate its achievements.

As “Ajakaju” continues to captivate audiences across Nigeria, Eniola Ajao’s debut as a cinema producer has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the industry, setting a new standard for excellence and innovation in Nollywood filmmaking.
