Residents of Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency, Akwa Ibom State have applauded the House of Representatives member for the constituency, Hon Unyime Idem, for effective representation of the constituency.
This followed his commitment to delivering constituency projects including the completion and inauguration of the 4 kilometres Ikot Akpan Essien-Ikot Obong-Ikot Ukpong Eren Road in Oruk Anam local government area.

“The road project which is constructed with a bridge linking Ikot Ukpong Eren with Ikot Obong communities will greatly boost agriculture and other economic activities in the rural areas,” Emmaido Inyang, leader of farmers’ cooperative at Ikot Ibrititam, headquarters of Oruk Anam LGA noted.
“He has done well in constituency projects. This is the first time in this state that a lawmaker would start a road project, tarred and delivered to his people. He (Idem) is from Ukanafun LGA, but what he has done in Ukanafun, he made sure same are also replicated here in Oruk Anam, the adjoining LGA making up the Federal Constituency,” he said.

However, Idem, who is the chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Public Procurement, described the project as “an Easter gift from me to the people of Oruk Anam, because no development thrives without good road network. With the inauguration of this road, the economic activities of these communities will be enhanced greatly.”

Addressing his constituents at the Ikot Akpan Essien- Ikot Obong junction, venue of the commissioning, the lawmaker used the opportunity to appeal to the people of the federal constituency to be patient, assuring that more plans are underway for them.
“I want to assure you that what I’ve done in the past five years is quite little, compared with what I will do in the next three years. More projects are coming. I want to promise the people of Oruk Anam that street lights will touch all the wards in the local government.

“I promised you that I won’t buy a car or build a house for myself until I put smiles in the faces of my constituents. I’m still holding unto that promise,” he said.
He appealed to the youths to be peaceful, while restating his plans to facilitate more employments to his constituents, with the hope that “in the next ten years, I hope to see my constituents in federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) rise to managerial positions.”
