The Kano State Police Command has announced discovery and defusing potential threats posed by some clandestine elements within certain Islamic sects and political circles in the state.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, during a meeting with Islamic clerics and representatives from the five Kano Emirate Councils, on Monday, said police discovered some individuals operating within the Islamic sects to incite unrest.

Gumel highlighted that the police and other security agencies in the state swiftly moved to frustrate the plan and any other attempt at causing chaos before, during, and after the Eid el-Fitr festivities.

He revealed identified the individuals as masquerading under the guise of the Qadiriyya Islamic sect, although the leader of the sect, Sheikh Qaribullah Kabara has distanced himself from these individuals by endorsing peace and harmony within the community.

“I wish to announce that the Kano State Police Command is aware of evil plans by some already identified religious and political pressure groups on the state government to succumbing to disregarding the ongoing judicial processes such as the matter before the Court on Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara and the pressure to speak on issues related to the status of the Emirates and Emirship in the State.

“These plans which have been uncovered shows that there are some enemies of the State that aimed at disrupting the Sallah activities, the entire existing peace in the state and to cause embarrassment to the state government,” CP Gumel said

As remedial action, the Command has strengthened security with increased surveillance around the flash locations like Kofar Nassarawa, Kofar Mata, Kofar Wambai and Kofar Kudu.

“We are aware of all these, and we are fully ready to decisively deal with this ill-fated decision unless the planners change for better. Also be aware that the sponsors of this plan are in our close watch, they are advised to stop forthwith, as security agencies are following up and trailing the event and the planners would be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the Law,” the police Commissioner said.

In addition to uniformed personnel, plainclothes security operatives have been strategically deployed across key areas to enhance surveillance and promptly address any emerging threats. The public is urged to remain vigilant and provide timely information to aid law enforcement efforts.

Acknowledging the invaluable support of stakeholders, including traditional rulers and clerics, Gumel emphasised the importance of continued cooperation in safeguarding public safety.

As preparations for the Eid el-Fitr festivities intensify, the public is therefore urged to heed security advisories and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities promptly.
