Following a prolonged shortage of potable water supply, the governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has apologised to residents of Bauchi metropolis and environs over the shortage being experienced.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the scarcity followed the collapse of the power supply installations at Gubi Dam water treatment plant. However, the water supply has been restored to the residents after the faulty installations were fixed a couple of days ago.

Over the last Ramadan, residents of the metropolis were not supplied water from the Gubi Dam water treatment plant, leading to scarcity of water for consumption and other domestic purposes.

In May 2022, former President Muhammadu Buhari commissioned about N23.5bn World Bank-funded expansion and upgrade of the Bauchi Township Water Supply Scheme. The project was designed to generate about 75 million litres of water to meet the daily needs of the residents of the Bauchi metropolis up to 2027.

The governor tendered the apology when he received his relatives on a Sallah homage at Ramat House Bauchi.

He assured residents that the problem of water scarcity within the metropolis city would be over. He added that efforts were on by the government to tackle the challenge headlong.

Governor Mohammed attributed the challenge facing the Gubi Water Dam to a lack of adequate power supply from the national grid which has been epileptic in recent times.

The governor said his administration will continue to execute developmental projects across the state to leave legacies and landmarks that can stand the test of time.
