More Nigeria’s Urban Areas To Face Heat By 2050 – Youth Parliament

Nigeria’s urban areas which were not under the heat risk as of 2000 will be under heavy heat by 2050, the Nigeria Youth Parliament has said.
This came up during a conference of state youth parliament under the chairmanship of Hon Uwagboe Osawamwenhio.

During its first webinar with the theme: “Catalyzing Climate action: Youth-Led initiative- Empowering Emerging leaders,” the youths said areas that were not experiencing heat in the urban centres in 2020 will be facing heavy heat by 2050.

The webinar which had in attendance Dr Marti Boada, a renowned Spanish environmental expert, Sofia Castelo the Technical Advisor Thinkcity, the minister of state youth, Hon Ayodele Olawande, deputy chairman House Committee on Environment, Hon Terseer Ugbor, director general National Council on Climate Change, Dr Salihu Dahiru among other notable speakers.

The state minister of youth, Hon Ayodele stated, “As young people we need to put in our best to propagate innovations and good initiatives, the possibilities in the renewed hope agenda of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu are enormous, everyone is needed on board to achieve wholesome progress in combating climate challenges.”

The technical advisor of Sofia Castelo highlighted that “Nigeria’s urban areas are not under the heat risk as at year 2000, but will be by 2050.”
